10 years after a facelift, liposuction or rhinoplasty, are the results still there ? How do those results change over time ? Here are some answers.

Testimony of a 60 years old female patient 10 years after her facelift

I was looking in the mirror one day and noticed that my lower face looked old and I felt a big gap between my appearance and how I felt. So I decided to get a lower facelift. Nobody noticed, all I was told is that I looked well and rested. Of course, I aged, but I still don’t have jowls or double chin issues and my neck looks amazing. When I look in the mirror, I recognize myself. I never wanted to look younger than I really am. I just want to look healthy and well. I don’t how I would look without my facelift, but I like that my face is peaceful and I feel comfortable in my own skin as it is now.

What surgeons think is best

The facelift procedure can make the face 5 to 10 years younger, but it doesn’t prevent natural aging from altering the appearance of the face. Facial skin is going to sag again, more or less quickly and to variable degrees depending on morphology, genetics and lifestyle. Tightening facial skin too much is not an appropriate answer to this process as it is likely to result in an unnatural appearance. Although some patients can benefit from a second facelift later in life, regular skin care and non-invasive treatments are usually preferable for maintenance purposes.

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, 10 years after the procedure

Testimony of a 46 years old female patient 10 years after her rhinoplasty

Even though I was disgusted with my nose, I waited years and years before I took this decision. One day, I was ready. This operation made me look better and restored my confidence, in my personal and professional life. I fell good about myself, I like my nose from the front and side. I’m less shy now and decided to cut my bangs to show my face more. 10 years after surgery, I still love my nose. Sometimes I think about how it looked before surgery and I still hurts to remember how miserable it made me. Years have passed and I think I should have done it sooner. I think my eyes look better now and I’m not afraid of aging, because my face is in tune with my personality.

Normally, a well corrected nose (which is balanced and fits the face well) ages well and doesn’t become problematic. The skin still gets thinner and thinner over time and irregularities can sometimes become visible : a slight asymmetry or protrusion can appear on the side for instance. In this case, hyaluronic acid injections are preferable to nose surgery to correct minor defects.
