If your breasts are sagging because of their excessive weight, if they are loose because of weight fluctuations or if they have become flat after pregnancy, breast lift surgery, or mastopexy, is a cosmetic surgery you can choose to restore their appealing and youthful appearance. Here is more information about this procedure.

A mammogram is always needed before any type of breast surgery and patients ideally have a stable weight since breast size and skin quality are affected by weight fluctuations. If you are planning on losing weight, it is preferable to reach a healthy weight before scheduling your breast lift.

Breast-lift

Breast lift : a versatile treatment to correct different issues

How does breast lift surgery work ?

The procedure aims at removing excess skin and lifting up the areola with the nipple, which sits too low on the chest (in the case of breast sagging, or breast ptosis). The operation is 1 to 3 hours long and performed under general anesthesia. An overnight stay under medical observation is necessary before the patient can go back home.

Can breast size be changed as well ?

This is possible during the same operation. Overly large breasts can have their size reduced by removing glandular tissue (from the mammary gland) and fat. On the other hand, it is possible to increase breast size with implants or with fat grafting.

How does fat grafting work here ?

Fat tissue can be used to correct asymmetries precisely and improve skin quality thanks to the regenerative properties of stem cells. When fat grafting is combined to a breast lift, the procedure is 2 to 3 hours long because it requires fat harvesting in certain areas of the body with liposuction. Fat is filtered and purified before being injected in the breasts.

How are the scars from breast lift surgery ?

Scars can be more or less visible depending on the technique used, however, they fade well over time. There are three possible incisions. One is made along the fold under the breast, another is made around the areola and the last one goes vertically from the areola to the base of the breast. Breast reduction or breast augmentation combined with the breast lift do not result in additional scars. Note that mature skin heals better than younger skin, because less hormonal changes can affect its quality.
