The eyelid lift removes excess skin in the upper eyelids as well as the under-eye bags (fat deposits) to rejuvenate the look of the eyes. This procedure requires high precision from the surgeon in order to rejuvenate the eyes without changing their unique expression or causing asymmetries.

The eyes can express many feelings and emotions, they play a major role in how we communicate with each other. Aging in this area leads to eyelid sagging, which creates a persisting tired or sad appearance that changes the expression of the resting face. In severe cases, the upper eyelids sag to the point where the visual field is decreased. Since skin in the eyelids and eyes area is very thin and delicate, it is the first to show aging signs, before any other areas of our body. The eyelid lift is intended to rejuvenate the eyes when aging signs impact the appearance of the whole face. This procedure is also commonly combined with facelifts to achieve more comprehensive results. Before the procedure

During the preoperative consultation, surgeons assess many different factors in order to determine their approach : skin laxity, skin quality, muscle tone, fat deposits, swelling, changes in the orbit’s bony frame…

Eyelid lift surgery

The procedure is 1 to 1.5 hours on average. For the upper eyelids, the incision line runs along the natural crease of the eyelid. The incision can be longer to help alleviate the crow’s feet. For the lower eyelids, there is typically no excess skin to be removed, so it is possible to use the conjunctival route to remove excess fat.

After the procedure

Bruising and mild swelling are normal, they typically resolve in 8 to 10 days. Patients do not feel pain, but discomfort, watery eyes and blurred vision are part of the initial recovery, their duration differ from one patient to another.
